Summary of Services offered by Dr. Thomas Hatzl, Geologist

Dr. Thomas Hatzl is an Independent Consulting Geologist to the minerals industry since 1992. After he finished his geology studies in 1986 at Technical University Munich as Diplom-Geologe (= M.Sc.), he worked for five years on various research orientated projects at the same institution. In 1992 he did his doctorate (honors) in record time on rare earth elements, gold and platinum group elements deposits in Anatolia, Turkey.

Since 1996 he is operating as an Independent Expert Witness (sworn-in by the Bavarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce) for the geochemistry and mineralogy of inorganic raw materials, spezialized mainly in testing and evaluation of clay-containing raw materials (industrial minerals sector, mineral fillers, brickmaking raw materials).

His services cover all aspects of the pit and quarry industry, dimension stone industry and the brick- and tilemaking industry. The combination of several state-of-the-art techniques and the close co-operation with other experts, research institutions and professional laboratories, ensures the quality of his work.

Besides his specialisation on the combination X-ray-fluorescence (XRF), X-ray-diffraction (XRD) and Fourrier-Infrared-spectroscopy (FTIR), he offers a wide range of services, such as:

• scanning electrone microscopy (SEM) with EDAX
• optical microscopy (thin sections/polished sections)
• microprobe analysis
• geochemistry (major, trace and ultratrace elements)
• clay mineralogy
• mineral separation
• differential thermal analysis (DTA) / thermogravimetry (TG)
